Sarawak Immigration Cracks Down on Illegal Migrants in Lundu and Kuching

LUNDU/KUCHING, 10 February – The Sarawak Malaysian Immigration Department has intensified its enforcement operations, targeting illegal migrants in both Lundu and Kuching as part of ongoing efforts to safeguard national security.

On 9 February 2026, a Special Action Team conducted “OPS SERKAP” in Kampung Rukam along Jalan Lundu–Biawak. The operation, which began at 5.35 pm and concluded at 7.00 pm, involved eight enforcement officers checking a total of three individuals, comprising one male and two female foreigners.

During the operation, authorities encountered resistance when the driver of a suspected vehicle attempted to evade the check. In the escape attempt, the vehicle collided with the fence of Sekolah Kebangsaan Holy Name, Kampung Rukam. Despite the crash, the situation was swiftly controlled, and no members of the public were injured. All three individuals were subsequently detained for further investigation. Preliminary findings indicated potential offences under the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants Act (ATIPSOM) 2007 and the Immigration Act 1959/63, including possession of invalid travel documents.

In a separate operation in Kuching early the next morning, the same team conducted “OPS SAPU” from 2.35 am to 3.00 am, focusing on a rented room at the Kuching City Mall commercial area. Ten individuals, including six locals and four foreigners, were inspected to verify their travel documents. Three Indonesian nationals—a man and two women—were arrested under Regulation 11 of the Immigration Regulations 1963 and Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 for illegal entry and document offences.

The Sarawak Malaysian Immigration Department emphasized that such enforcement operations will continue to be carried out periodically to combat illegal immigration. Authorities also urged the public to assist by providing information on suspicious activities, helping ensure the country’s security and sovereignty are maintained.
