KUCHING – In a significant move to streamline statewide development, the Sarawak Deputy Premier, Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, officially launched the Sarawak Infrastructure Engagement Program 2026 today.
The high-level summit serves as a dedicated dialogue between the state’s technical agencies and its elected political representatives.
Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah, who also holds the portfolios of Minister of Finance and New Economy II as well as Minister of Infrastructure and Port Development, emphasised that the initiative is a cornerstone of the government’s strategy to enhance project delivery.
The primary goal is to foster a more responsive and efficient governance framework for high-impact public works.
The assembly brought together Members of Parliament (MPs) and State Legislative Assembly (ADUN) members from every corner of Sarawak.
They joined the senior leadership of the Sarawak Public Works Department (JKR) to create a strategic roadmap for ongoing and future physical developments across the region.
A key feature of the programme is an intensive afternoon briefing session designed to provide lawmakers with granular data regarding project statuses within their specific constituencies.
This direct line of communication is intended to bypass bureaucratic delays and provide a clear picture of how tax-payer funds are being utilised on the ground.
The dialogue is set to tackle several persistent “on-site” hurdles that often complicate large-scale construction.
These include complex utility relocations, land acquisition legalities, site coordination between multiple contractors, and the management of project cash flows.
By addressing these bottlenecks in a unified forum, the state aims to prevent cost overruns and timeline slippages.
Furthermore, the platform encourages a two-way flow of information. Elected representatives are invited to present first-hand feedback from their constituents and offer suggestions for procedural improvements.
This collaborative approach ensures that the people’s voices are integrated into the technical planning stages of regional infrastructure.
The Deputy Premier noted that this engagement reflects the administration’s “We Build For You” philosophy, reinforcing the bond between the government and its stakeholders.
The event is seen as a vital step in ensuring that Sarawak’s rapid physical transformation remains transparent, accountable, and aligned with the needs of the local populace.
