KUCHING – The Sarawak International Open DanceSport Championship 2025 wrapped up with great success at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK), celebrating world-class performances and strengthening Sarawak’s reputation as a hub for DanceSport in the region.
The championship, organised by the Sarawak DanceSport Association (SDA), featured participants from Malaysia, Vietnam, Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia, the Philippines, China, and India. The event drew a lively audience and provided a stage where elegance, rhythm, and athleticism blended seamlessly.
Vietnam’s competitors stole the limelight, with duo Gia Bao Pham and Chau Anh Vu topping the Grade A Open Latin category, while Van Dung triumphed in the Female Solo Adult Latin. In the breaking division, Tran Xuan Thuy took the Breaking B Girl title, while Malaysia’s own Firdaus Sora from Sabah rose to the occasion to win the Breaking B Boy crown.

A central figure behind the championship’s success is SDA president, Chester Lim, whose leadership and commitment have driven DanceSport’s growth in Sarawak. He stressed that the competition has continued to expand, drawing international interest and offering young dancers opportunities to shine on the global stage.
“DanceSport is more than just competition – it is about cultural exchange, discipline, and showcasing the talents of our youth to the world. Sarawak has the potential to be the centre of DanceSport excellence in Malaysia and beyond,” said Lim.
Lim also revealed that the Sarawak DanceSport Association (SDA) will be taking the stage internationally once again at the TLOC – Thang Long Open Championship 2025 in Hanoi, Vietnam, on October 4 and 5. Five Sarawakian girls will compete in the WDSF world ranking Latin solo events across Junior 1, Junior 2, Youth, and Adult categories.

Adding further prestige, Russell, Randell & Cindy Dance Company’s Cindy Chung has been officially invited as a judge for the Thang Long Open Championship, reflecting Sarawak’s growing recognition in the global DanceSport arena.
The Sarawak event itself was sanctioned by the Malaysia DanceSport Federation (MYDF) and supported by the Ministry of Youth and Sports (KBS) as well as the Sarawak Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts (MTCP).
Among the dignitaries present were Sarawak Sports Corporation acting CEO Khairul Nizam Morshidi and SDA president Chester Lim, who joined in commending the participants, judges, and organisers for delivering a truly memorable championship.
With the leadership of Chester Lim and the dedication of SDA, the Sarawak International Open DanceSport 2025 concluded on a high note, proving to be a celebration of talent, culture, and international friendship – while setting the stage for more achievements in Vietnam next month.
