Sarawak Islamic Department Holds Al-Quran Khatam Ceremony

KUCHING – The Department of Islamic Religion Sarawak (JAIS) marked the holy month of Ramadan with a special Al-Quran Khatam Ceremony, held on 9 March at the Ijtimak Hall, Level 11, MTAHMS. The event formed part of the department’s Dhiya’ Ramadan Programme 1447H/2026M, designed to strengthen spiritual values and encourage deeper engagement with Islamic teachings.

The ceremony was attended by Sahibus Siyadah Ustaz Haji Mual bin Haji Suaud, Director of JAIS, who joined staff and senior management in completing the khatam reading session. His presence at 3:00 pm symbolised unity and collective appreciation of the Al-Quran among the department’s leadership and employees.

The programme began early in the morning, with 85 staff members participating. The schedule was divided into two sessions: women’s groups read in the morning, while men’s groups continued in the afternoon. This structured approach ensured full participation and highlighted inclusivity across the department.

The event also featured a Takhtim Council, reinforcing the significance of completing the recitation of the Al-Quran. The ceremony was not only a spiritual exercise but also a communal gathering, strengthening bonds among colleagues and fostering a sense of shared purpose.

In addition, JAIS distributed Raya Raya packs to all employees, a gesture of appreciation and preparation for the upcoming Aidilfitri celebrations. This act underscored the department’s commitment to recognising the contributions of its staff while promoting festive spirit.

The programme was organised by the JAIS Dakwah Division under the theme “Happy Charity & Double Reward”. The theme reflects the department’s aim to encourage charitable acts, nurture brotherhood, and reinforce the role of the Al-Quran as a guiding principle in daily life.

Events such as this are part of JAIS’s broader initiative to enhance religious awareness during Ramadan. Similar activities have been held in past years, including communal prayers, lectures, and outreach programmes, all intended to deepen faith and strengthen community ties.

The Al-Quran Khatam Ceremony serves as a reminder of the importance of spiritual reflection during Ramadan. By involving staff at every level, JAIS demonstrates its commitment to fostering unity and ensuring that the values of Islam remain central to its organisational culture.
