SEMARANG – The Sarawak Islamic Religious Department (JAIS), in collaboration with the Sarawak Islamic Council Office and the Betong Division Islamic Religious Office, has launched the Director’s Ramadan Safari Series 1 at Surau An-Nur, Kampung Sungai Durian, Semarang, Betong. The event forms part of the Dhiya’ Ramadan Programme for the year 1447H/2026M.
The ceremony was officiated by Tuan Haji Mual bin Haji Suaud, Director of JAIS and Secretary of the Sarawak Islamic Council. Also in attendance was Pusa District Officer, Tuan Hamdan bin Haji Katang, alongside community leaders and local residents.
The initiative aims to foster closer ties between the department and the community, while also identifying the needs of surau facilities. It is designed to celebrate the holy month of Ramadan with meaningful activities that strengthen ukhuwah (brotherhood) and encourage collective participation in religious life.
The programme featured a special Ramadan Tazkirah session, followed by a communal fast-breaking meal. Congregational fardu prayers and Tarawih sunnah prayers were also held, reinforcing the spiritual atmosphere of the event.
In addition to religious activities, donations were presented to ease the burden of underprivileged groups and support mosque upkeep. Contributions included:
- Sarawak Islamic Council: Cash and food boxes for 40 underprivileged recipients, cash and school equipment for 40 students, and a vacuum cleaner for Surau An-Nur’s management committee.
- Sarawak Islamic Religious Department: A mosque maintenance fund totalling RM3,000.
The organisers highlighted that such efforts are intended not only to provide immediate assistance but also to encourage long-term community resilience. By supporting both individuals and surau facilities, the programme seeks to ensure that religious institutions remain well-maintained and accessible to all.
Local residents welcomed the initiative, noting that it brought together spiritual enrichment and practical support. The Ramadan Safari is expected to continue across other divisions, reflecting JAIS’s broader commitment to community engagement during the holy month.
This first series in Betong sets the tone for further activities throughout Ramadan, reinforcing the department’s mission to combine faith, charity, and community solidarity.
