KUCHING – The Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sarawak, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Haji Wan Junaidi bin Tuanku Jaafar, joined thousands of attendees this morning for the Aidilfitri Sunat Prayer at the Sarawak State Mosque, alongside his wife.
The Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Haji Abdul Rahman Zohari bin Tun Datuk Abang Haji Openg, was also present, along with several senior dignitaries.
Their attendance highlighted the importance of the occasion, marking the start of Syawal and the end of Ramadan.
They were received by Tan Sri Datuk Amar Haji Abdul Aziz bin Dato Haji Husain, Honorary Secretary of the Sarawak State Mosque Welfare Trust Board (LAKMNS), together with board members, Chief Executive Officer Datu Haji Abdul Hadi bin Datuk Haji Abdul Kadir, and the mosque’s management team.
The prayer was led by the Grand Imam of Sarawak, Sahibul Fadhilah Dato’ Haji Mustapha Kamal bin Ahmad Fauzi.
After the prayer, the State Mufti of Sarawak, Sahibus Samahah Datu Haji Khalidi bin Haji Ibrahim, delivered a sermon titled “The Blessings of Syawal: A Sign of Gratitude and Victory.” He spoke about gratitude, unity, and the sense of spiritual achievement after a month of fasting and devotion.
At the Kuching City Mosque, another large group gathered for the Aidilfitri prayer led by Ustaz Awang Fakrulrizan bin Awang Madohi.
His sermon focused on compassion, community, and perseverance, reminding worshippers that Syawal carries meaning beyond celebration.
Across Sarawak, Aidilfitri prayers bring together leaders and the public in a shared moment of faith. The turnout reflects a strong sense of unity across the state’s diverse communities.
As the day continues with open houses and festive meals, the morning prayers set the tone, grounding the celebration in reflection, gratitude, and togetherness.
