KUCHING, 20 May 2025 – The Premier of Sarawak, YAB Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, received a courtesy visit today from a delegation of Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA), led by its Chairman, Datuk Dr. Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki. The meeting, held at the Sarawak Premier’s Office in the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) Building, Petra Jaya, focused on a strategic partnership between MARA and the Sarawak Government in the areas of education and entrepreneurship.

One of the key highlights of the discussion was MARA’s potential involvement in Sarawak’s growing conventional and new energy sectors. Datuk Dr. Asyraf expressed optimism over the collaboration, especially in the hydrogen sector — an area Sarawak is heavily investing in.

According to him, MARA is ready to contribute its strength in education and training infrastructure to align with Sarawak’s economic direction. As part of this plan, Institut Kemahiran MARA (IKM) Bintulu will be developed into a high-ranking regional training centre focused on oil, gas, and green technology.

“MARA will ensure that programmes like IKM and GiatMARA will produce a skilled workforce that matches industry needs,” said Datuk Dr. Asyraf. He emphasised that this cooperation will create more quality job opportunities for local youth while giving Sarawak’s younger generation better access to MARA’s training and education ecosystem.

This initiative not only supports the development of human capital but also complements Sarawak’s ambition to become a regional leader in renewable energy and technical innovation.

Among those present at the event were Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki (Sarawak State Secretary), Dato Zulfikri Osman (MARA Director), and other prominent national figures including former Bank Negara Governor Tan Sri Muhammad Ibrahim and MINDA Director Prof. Tan Sri Dato Seri Dr. Noor Azlan Ghazali.
