LUNDU – Sarawak continues to stand out as a role model among Malaysian states, especially in fostering racial harmony and inclusive progress, declared Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian at the 2025 Mid-Autumn Festival celebration in Lundu.
He emphasised that the Mid-Autumn Festival is not merely a cultural observance for the Chinese community, but a chance for all Sarawakians, Malay, Chinese, Indigenous and others, to come together, dine together and celebrate collectively. “This is the Sarawak identity which we are proud of,” he said.
Dr Sim, who concurrently serves as Minister of Public Health, Housing and Local Government, praised the participation of 38 associations and organisations in the festival, stating this demonstrated the strength of community cohesion in the state.
Beyond the theme of unity, he touched on Sarawak’s rapid development, noting that the state’s growth has drawn attention nationwide.
He attributed success to sustainable policies and collective effort. “In the past, some looked down on us, but now we are an example. We must continue to unite and work hard,” he urged.
He added that Sarawak is now respected by other states for building an inclusive and harmonised society. “We have prioritised inclusion, harmony and development for all people. That is Sarawak’s true wealth.”
The Lundu celebration featured cultural performances, lantern displays, exhibitions and food stalls representing multiple ethnic groups. Children’s shows and community events added vibrancy to the proceedings.
Also in attendance were the Premier’s political secretaries Abang Abdul Aziz and Niponi, Lundu District Police Chief Sudirman, Lundu District Council Secretary Norasikin, Lundu Deputy District Officer Anwar Fakriyuddin, and Datuk Zeng Zhenjiang, the organising secretary for the Sarawak United People’s Party.
As Sarawak projects itself as a model in governance and harmony, voices like Dr Sim’s underline the state’s intention to sustain not only material progress, but a social fabric that others might emulate.
