KUCHING – A high-level meeting was convened at Wisma Bapa Malaysia on 23 April 2026 to mark the establishment of the Sarawak Ops Tiris 4.0 (Integrated) Special Task Force.
The session, chaired jointly by Sarawak Federal Secretary YBhg Dato Ahmad Nadzri bin Mohd Hassan and Sarawak State Secretary YB Datuk Amar Haji Mohamad Abu Bakar bin Marzuki, represents the first meeting of the task force for 2026.
The creation of Ops Tiris 4.0 follows the decision of the Supreme Coordination Committee for Inter-Agency Enforcement to Combat Leakage and Smuggling (JTPAP) earlier this month.
The committee, meeting on 6 April 2026, highlighted the need for stronger enforcement in light of the global energy crisis triggered by the West Asian conflict.
Rising risks of embezzlement and leakage of controlled goods, particularly petrol and diesel, have prompted authorities to intensify monitoring and enforcement measures.
The task force is expected to coordinate efforts across multiple agencies to ensure that controlled goods are safeguarded against smuggling and misuse.
Officials emphasised that the initiative is part of a broader national strategy to protect Malaysia’s energy resources and maintain stability in supply chains during a period of heightened global uncertainty.
Among those present at the meeting were Sarawak Deputy State Secretary (Administration) YBhg Datu Felicia Tan Ya Hua, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Utilities and Communications YBhg Datu Jefri bin Lias, and Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Transport YBhg Datu Wong Hee Sieng.
Their participation underscored the multi-agency nature of the task force, which will rely on collaboration between federal and state bodies to achieve its objectives.
Officials noted that Ops Tiris 4.0 builds on previous enforcement frameworks, but with an expanded scope to address emerging challenges.
The integrated approach is designed to strengthen surveillance, improve intelligence sharing, and ensure swift action against offenders.
The meeting concluded with a commitment to intensify operations across Sarawak, focusing on border areas, transport hubs, and distribution networks where risks of leakage and smuggling are most pronounced.
Authorities reiterated that strict enforcement will be applied to protect public interest and maintain confidence in the management of controlled goods.
