KUCHING – The Sarawak Orchid Society (SARORSO) has paid a courtesy visit to the Director of the Sarawak Foundation, Datu Mohamad Junaidi Mohidin, at Wisma Adenan, Sarawak Foundation Building.
The delegation was led by SARORSO Patron Puan Dayang Norjihan binti Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Abang Openg, who emphasised the importance of strengthening ties between the society and the foundation. The meeting aimed to introduce SARORSO’s mission in greater detail and explore opportunities for collaboration.
Discussions centred on joint initiatives to promote orchid conservation and development in Sarawak. Both parties highlighted the potential for educational programmes and community-based activities that could raise awareness about the state’s rich biodiversity while supporting local communities.
SARORSO representatives explained that orchids are not only a cultural symbol but also a valuable resource for tourism and scientific research.
By working with the Sarawak Foundation, the society hopes to expand outreach efforts, encourage youth participation, and integrate orchid-related projects into broader educational frameworks.
The Director of the Sarawak Foundation welcomed the visit, noting that partnerships of this nature align with the foundation’s objectives of supporting education, community empowerment, and sustainable development. He expressed optimism that future collaborations could enhance Sarawak’s reputation as a centre for orchid diversity and conservation.
Also present at the meeting was SARORSO Chairman, Tengku Dr Auvaroza Tengku Abraham, along with several committee members. Their participation underscored the society’s collective commitment to advancing orchid-related initiatives across the state.
The courtesy visit reflects SARORSO’s proactive approach in building institutional partnerships that can strengthen conservation efforts while fostering community engagement.
With Sarawak recognised globally for its diverse orchid species, such collaborations are seen as vital in ensuring long-term preservation and sustainable use of natural resources.
