Sarawak Premier Presents Aid to 125 Asnaf at LCDA Iftar

KUCHING – The Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Haji Abdul Rahman Zohari bin Tun Datuk Abang Haji Openg, attended the LCDA Darul Hana 2026 Iftar Ceremony at The Waterfront Hotel on 24 February.

The event was organised by the Land Development and Conservation Authority (LCDA) as part of its 45th Anniversary Celebration, themed “45 Years of LCDA Together with the Community”.

The Premier arrived at approximately 6.40 pm and was warmly received by LCDA General Manager, Datu Sr Haji Zaidi Haji Mahdi. The evening began with the breaking of fast, followed by Maghrib prayers in congregation, before guests enjoyed the iftar meal.

A highlight of the ceremony was the presentation of the LCDA Group of Companies’ 2025 Zakat Business contribution, amounting to RM1,782,437.05, handed over by Datu Sr Haji Zaidi on behalf of the group to the Sarawak Baitulmal Fund (TBS).

The contribution was received by TBS General Manager, Datu Haji Abang Mohd. Shibli Haji Abang Mohd Nailie, marking a significant commitment towards supporting Islamic welfare initiatives in the state.

Following this, the Premier personally distributed Hari Raya contributions totalling RM25,000 to 125 asnaf recipients from 13 villages within the Darul Hana Development Project area. Each beneficiary received RM200, reflecting the government’s ongoing efforts to support vulnerable communities.

The ceremony continued with Isyak and Tarawih prayers in congregation before concluding with a moreh feast. The atmosphere was described as one of unity and brotherhood, bringing together leaders, community members, and guests in a spirit of shared celebration.

Approximately 700 guests attended the event, including LCDA staff, community leaders, representatives from government agencies, and members of the media. The gathering served as a platform to acknowledge the cooperation and support extended to LCDA throughout its 45-year journey.

Also present were the Premier’s daughter, Puan Dayang Norjihan, and the Deputy Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, underscoring the importance of family and leadership presence at community-centred events.

The LCDA, established to drive land development and conservation projects, has played a vital role in shaping Sarawak’s socio-economic landscape. Its anniversary celebration not only commemorated decades of progress but also reinforced its commitment to community engagement and welfare.

The Premier’s participation in the ceremony highlighted the government’s dedication to fostering inclusivity, supporting charitable initiatives, and strengthening ties between state institutions and local communities.
