MUKAH – Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Haji Abdul Rahman Zohari bin Tun Datuk Abang Haji Openg joined members of the local community for Friday prayers at Setia Raja Mosque here on 2 October.
The Premier arrived at the mosque at about 12.15pm, where he was received by members of the mosque committee before joining worshippers for the weekly congregational prayers.
He was also present for the Friday sermon delivered by the Mufti of Sarawak, Datu Haji Khalidi bin Haji Ibrahim, which focused on the theme “Being Grateful for the Blessings of Development”.
The sermon preceded the Friday prayer and addressed the theme of gratitude in the context of development, linking the religious message with the broader progress experienced by communities.
Following the sermon, the Premier performed the Friday prayers alongside members of the congregation. His attendance placed him in the same prayer setting as residents and other worshippers at the mosque.
The visit formed part of the Premier’s official activities in Mukah and provided an opportunity for him to interact with members of the local community after the prayers.
Community engagement is a regular component of official visits by state leaders, allowing government representatives to meet residents outside formal administrative settings and to maintain direct contact with communities across Sarawak.
For local communities, mosques and other places of worship can also serve as important gathering points, particularly during weekly religious observances. Attendance by public officials at such occasions provides an opportunity for informal interaction with residents and community representatives.
Setia Raja Mosque was the setting for the Premier’s Friday prayer attendance on this occasion, with the programme combining the religious observance with a community engagement opportunity.
The visit also followed the delivery of the sermon by the state Mufti, whose participation provided the religious address before the congregation proceeded with the Friday prayers.
After the prayers concluded, the Premier spent time meeting members of the local community. The interaction gave residents an opportunity to engage with the state leader directly during his visit to Mukah.
No further details on specific matters raised during the post-prayer engagement were provided in the material supplied for the report.
The Premier’s attendance at the mosque came amid his wider official schedule in Mukah, where engagements with local communities form part of state-level activities and visits throughout Sarawak.
The Friday gathering therefore brought together the religious observance, the mosque congregation and a community interaction involving the state leadership in Mukah. – Sarawak Daily
