KUCHING – His Excellency the Governor of Sarawak, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Haji Wan Junaidi bin Tuanku Jaafar, welcomed a courtesy visit from the Sarawak Premier, YAB Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Haji Abdul Rahman Zohari bin Tun Datuk Abang Haji Openg, at the Sarawak State Council in Petra Jaya on Thursday, 7 May 2026.
The meeting was held ahead of the State Executive Council (MMKN) session scheduled for the same day. During the visit, the premier sought the governor’s approval and provided a briefing on the agenda to be discussed at the council meeting.
This routine engagement underscores the strong working relationship between the Yang di-Pertua Negeri institution and the state executive leadership.
Such interactions are seen as vital in ensuring that Sarawak’s administration continues to operate smoothly while reinforcing the state’s long-term development goals.
The governor and premier also took the opportunity to deliberate on several matters of public interest. Their discussions centred on issues affecting the people of Sarawak and strategies to align state policies with future development priorities.
Observers note that these regular exchanges between the governor and the premier reflect a commitment to collaborative governance.
By maintaining open dialogue, both leaders aim to strengthen institutional cooperation and ensure that Sarawak’s growth trajectory remains consistent with its broader vision for progress.
The cordial atmosphere of the meeting highlighted the mutual respect between the two offices. It also demonstrated the importance of maintaining harmony at the highest levels of state leadership, which in turn supports effective decision-making and policy implementation.
The premier’s visit to the governor is part of a longstanding practice that reinforces the constitutional role of the Yang di-Pertua Negeri in state affairs.
It also serves as a reminder of the balance between ceremonial duties and executive responsibilities in Sarawak’s governance framework.
As Sarawak continues to pursue ambitious development strategies, the collaboration between the governor and the premier is expected to remain a cornerstone of the state’s political and administrative stability.
