Sarawak Premier Joined Peryatim Children for Breaking Fast

KUCHING – The Premier of Sarawak, YAB Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Johari Tun Abang Openg, joined children from Peryatim for a special breaking fast ceremony organised at the Satria Pertiwi Complex here today. In his visit, he was accompanied by his daughter, Puan Dayang Norjihan, Advisor to Peryatim.

After Maghrib, Isyak and Tarawih prayers, there was moreh (nibbles) and distribution of Hari Raya donations to the orphans.

During this 164th episode, the programme itself was hosted for the first time at Satria Pertiwi Complex, which had just been built, giving a more comfortable and valuable environment for these children.

These kinds of programmes were previously conducted at the Peryatim building itself under the late Datuk Amar Juma’ani Tun Tuanku Haji Bujang, who was Adviser to Peryatim.

The tradition has now been carried on by Puan Dayang Norjihan, who decided to take the experience one step further and conduct the gathering in the budding new complex.

The Premier’s presence highlighted the state government’s support for charitable organisations and inclusion of orphans in community activities during Ramadan.

The ceremony also underscored how important it is to keep traditions going but also to adapt them for new surroundings that can better meet the needs of the children.

Also present at the event were Tan Sri Bustari Yusuf, Datu Misnu Taha, Sarawak Islamic Council Chairman and several other invited dignitaries.

Their involvement was a sign of the deep community support for Peryatim and its work with orphans throughout Sarawak.

Peryatim, or Sarawak Orphans Welfare Organisation, has been taking children who are orphaned under their wing since mankind’s time immemorial, providing shelter, education and guidance.

Such events not only reinforce the bond between leaders and community but also remind everyone about compassion and inclusiveness during the holy month.

The Satria Pertiwi Complex itself symbolises the next phase for Peryatim. The centre comes with enhanced facilities and space to conduct programmes in a more conducive environment.

The organisers are hoping that future events will build on this foundation and leave the children feeling supported, celebrated and worthy of their place in the world.

The Premier’s visit to seek the blessings of Peryatim children during the holy month of Ramadan is in line with Sarawak’s aspirations for community empowerment and social responsibility.

Similar to their predecessors, the state leadership continues to promote a sense of unity and care towards those less fortunate while still embracing new economic opportunities.
