Sarawak Premier Launches RM673m CMS Clinker Line 2 Expansion

KUCHING – The Sarawak Premier, YAB Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Johari Bin Tun Abang Haji Openg, officiated the groundbreaking ceremony for the Mambong Cahaya Mata Cement (CMS) Clinker Line 2 project at the Mambong Integrated Plant in Padawan on Thursday evening.

The RM673 million expansion will enable CMS to produce 1.9 million metric tonnes of cement annually, strengthening supply for Sarawak’s growing construction and infrastructure sectors.

The Premier noted that CMS has played a pivotal role in the state’s development since its establishment in 1974, contributing to economic growth through reliable cement production.

He also commended CMS for adopting waste recovery technology and introducing eco cement, innovations that align with both government and global sustainability policies, particularly in the hydrogen industry.

In his address, Abang Johari highlighted the state’s ongoing infrastructure investments, including a RM3.2 billion road upgrading project spanning Miri to Marudi, Long Terawan, Long Panai, Long Lama, and extending to Mulu and Gunung Muda in Limbang.

The initiative involves converting former logging roads into public roads, alongside improvements in electricity and water supply for rural communities.

“These projects will not only enhance connectivity but also ensure inclusive development for Marudi, Baram, and surrounding areas,” he said, drawing applause from attendees.

The ceremony concluded with the Premier symbolically breaking ground using a bulldozer and planting a Belian tree, representing the inauguration of the project.

Among those present were Deputy Ministers Datuk Dr Jerip Susil, Datuk Aidil Lariwoo, and Datuk Dr Hadzlan Hipni, alongside Datuk Seri DiRaja Tan Sri Dr Mohamad Zahidi bin Zainudin, Chairman of Cahaya Mata Sarawak Bhd Group; Datuk Seri Sulaiman Abdul Rahman bin Pehin Sri Taib, Managing Director of Cahaya Mata Sarawak Berhad; and Datuk Matasan bin Isa, Chairman of Cahaya Mata Simen Sdn Bhd, together with invited dignitaries.

The Clinker Line 2 project is expected to bolster Sarawak’s industrial capacity, ensuring sustainable cement production while supporting the state’s long-term infrastructure and economic ambitions.
