Sarawak Premier Welcomes Limbang Malay Association Delegation

KUCHING – Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Haji Abdul Rahman Zohari bin Tun Datuk Abang Haji Openg, received a courtesy visit from the Limbang Malay Association (PML) at Satria Pertiwi Complex on 5 March 2026.

It was led by Tuan Haji Mohamad bin Abu Bakar, Chanman of PML, who had invited the Premier to grace two major events taking place in Limbang soon.

Handled around the 19th Berdudun and Kerbau Festival; 79th Anniversary Celebration, 19th Berlidang, on Saturday, 24 October 2026, Kampung Mengatai Limbang.

The visit, a courtesy call, was part of the association’s initiatives to strengthen ties with leadership at the state level while promoting cultural heritage and uniting a community.

Berdudun and the Kerbau Festival have been hosted in Limbang for ages, perpetuating the traditional customs related to agricultural production among various ethnic tribes, including their symbolic livestock, kerbau (buffalo), commonly owned by the locals in the rural area.

While it has grown into a vibrant cultural showcase over the years, drawing crowds from all over Sarawak and its neighbouring regions.

It includes traditional performances, communal feasts and activities that reflect the Malay community’s values of cooperation and togetherness.

Preserving cultural identity and supporting social development has played a vital role for the Limbang Malay Association, an organisation founded almost 80 years ago in the district.

The organisation’s anniversary celebrates an enduring contribution to the community but also creates a platform to get younger generations involved in cultural preservation.

The association made sure to emphasise the importance of state leadership endorsing and supporting initiatives that come from the ground up by inviting the Premier.

The meeting also dealt with preparations for the forthcoming celebrations, emphasising that these will be carried out smoothly and with full involvement of community members.
