KUCHING – The Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Bin Tun Datuk Abang Haji Openg, received a courtesy visit from representatives of the Malaysian Malay Contractors Association (PKMM) Sarawak State Branch, the Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB), and the Malaysian Construction Academy (ABM) Sarawak Region at the Satria Pertiwi Complex on 2 March 2026.
The delegation was led by Dato’ Ismail Suut, President of PKMM Sarawak, who expressed appreciation for the Sarawak Government’s continued support in empowering local contractors, particularly Bumiputeras.
The visit served as a platform to strengthen strategic ties between the organisations and the state government while also discussing future directions for the construction industry.
Key areas of focus included capacity development, skills training, and initiatives to align the construction sector with Sarawak’s broader development agenda.
The discussions highlighted the importance of equipping contractors with the necessary expertise to meet the demands of modern infrastructure projects and contribute to the state’s economic growth.
The meeting also underscored the role of collaboration between government agencies and industry players in ensuring that Sarawak’s construction sector remains competitive and sustainable.
By fostering partnerships, the state aims to enhance workforce capabilities and encourage innovation in construction practices.
Among those present were Dato Dr Haji Zaiedi Suhaili, Advisor to PKMM Sarawak; Dato Ir Haji Alhadi Ibrahim, Chairman of CREAM Malaysia; Suhaimi Mansor, Senior General Manager of CIDB Malaysia; Rosmen AG Hassan, Director of CIDB Sarawak; and Abdul Rahman Ahmad, Chief Executive Officer of ABM Sarawak Region.
Their participation reflected the collective commitment to advancing the industry through training, knowledge sharing, and strategic planning.
The courtesy visit reaffirmed the government’s support for the construction sector as a vital component of Sarawak’s development. It also highlighted the importance of empowering Bumiputera contractors to play a more significant role in shaping the state’s infrastructure landscape.
