JAKARTA – Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg began the second day of his working visit to Jakarta with a closed-door high-level discussion alongside Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Hajiji Mohd Noor.

The exclusive discussion served as a strategic prelude to the Annual Malaysia-Indonesia Negotiating Meeting, which is scheduled to take place with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto at Merdeka Palace.

Key topics expected to be discussed during both the preparatory session and the official meeting include:

  • Cross-border cooperation, particularly development in border areas;
  • Strengthening regional collaboration under ASEAN;
  • Renewable energy generation and distribution initiatives.

The presence of the Sarawak Premier in these high-level engagements highlights the state’s growing strategic role in diplomatic and developmental affairs involving Borneo Malaysia and Indonesia.

The Sarawak delegation arrived in Jakarta a day earlier than the Prime Minister’s team, signalling their commitment to proactive diplomacy and cross-border development planning.

Following the preparatory discussion, the Malaysian leaders proceeded to Merdeka Palace to attend the official bilateral session with President Prabowo, where several critical agendas affecting regional integration and economic collaboration are expected to be finalised.
