Speaking at the Opening Ceremony of the 2026 Sarawak Coalition Convention at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching, he emphasised that effective resource management must be guided by fairness, inclusivity and sincerity in leadership.

The Premier noted that the prosperity of a state cannot be measured solely by its natural resources. Instead, he stressed that leadership must ensure resources are managed equitably for the benefit of all citizens.

He pointed out that Sarawak’s governing coalition, Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS), has consistently taken into account the state’s diverse racial and religious composition.

Among the initiatives highlighted was support for Chinese schools, which also benefit Bumiputera students learning Mandarin.

In addition, the state government continues to assist religious institutions through the Other Religious Affairs Unit (UNIFOR), reinforcing its commitment to community well-being across different faiths.

“In Sarawak, we have our own model. We help all people regardless of background because only Sarawakians truly understand the culture and harmony we build together,” he said.

The Premier cautioned that resource wealth alone does not guarantee prosperity if instability and division persist.

He cited examples of resource-rich nations such as Sudan and Nigeria, which continue to face development challenges due to internal conflicts. He stressed that political stability and consensus among leaders are essential for sustainable growth.

Turning to economic matters, he emphasised that development must align with labour market needs. Graduates, he said, should be equipped with relevant skills to avoid difficulties in securing employment and to reduce the migration of skilled workers abroad.

He added that today’s economy is increasingly knowledge-driven, requiring Sarawak to keep pace with advanced states and nations. In this context, the premier highlighted the importance of developing new sectors such as aerospace.

He mentioned that educational institutions, including ICATS, are establishing faculties dedicated to high-technology fields, aiming to strengthen knowledge mastery and create opportunities for Sarawak’s younger generation.

“In order to achieve progress, our politics need to be consistent and stable. Without stability, we risk facing problems like what happens in other countries. Therefore, stability is the key to a secure future,” he concluded.

The Premier’s remarks reinforced the message that Sarawak’s path forward depends on unity, knowledge-based development and a stable political environment, ensuring that future generations inherit a stronger and more resilient state.
