Sarawak Premier Joins Sungkei Anak Sarawak 2026 Ceremony in KL

KUALA LUMPUR – The Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Haji Abdul Rahman Zohari bin Tun Datuk Abang Haji Openg, attended the Sungkei Anak Sarawak 2026 ceremony at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC) on Saturday evening, coinciding with the 10th day of Ramadan 1447H.

Arriving at approximately 7 pm with his daughter, Puan Dayang Norjihan, the Premier was greeted by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Amar Haji Fadillah bin Haji Yusof and his wife, Datin Amar Hajah Ruziah binti Mohd Tahir. The event also drew ministers, senior officials, and distinguished guests, reflecting the strong presence of Sarawakian leadership in the capital.

The Premier later welcomed the arrival of Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sarawak, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Haji Wan Junaidi bin Tuanku Jaafar, accompanied by Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah binti Mohd Sanusi. Their attendance underscored the significance of the gathering, which brought together Sarawak’s top leaders and community members in Kuala Lumpur.

The evening began with a presentation of souvenirs by the Sarawak Foundation to honoured guests, symbolising appreciation for their support. This was followed by a recitation of verses from the Quran, setting a spiritual tone for the ceremony.

As the Maghrib call to prayer was heard, attendees broke their fast together in a spirit of gratitude and unity. The communal meal was followed by the Maghrib prayer, performed in congregation, reinforcing the religious and cultural essence of the occasion.

A highlight of the evening was the distribution of financial assistance to 40 Sarawakian students currently pursuing studies in Peninsular Malaysia. This welfare initiative, organised under the auspices of the Sarawak Foundation, demonstrated the state’s commitment to supporting its youth outside Sarawak.

The programme continued with the Isyak prayer and concluded with the Tarawih sunnah prayer, marking the end of the ceremony in a reflective and spiritual atmosphere.

The Sungkei Anak Sarawak event has become a meaningful tradition, offering Sarawakians in Kuala Lumpur an opportunity to gather during Ramadan. It not only strengthens ties among the community but also highlights the leadership’s concern for education, welfare, and unity among Sarawakians living away from home.
