TANJUNG MANIS – Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg is scheduled to visit the Tukun Gaga project in Belawai, an initiative aimed at boosting local income and sustainable development in the Rajang, Jerijih, Belawai and Tanjung Manis areas.

The RM70 million project, spearheaded by the Sarawak Government, focuses on enhancing fishery resources while creating economic opportunities for surrounding communities. Its progress will be reviewed during the Premier’s upcoming visit.
The announcement was made during the 18th edition of the Tanjung Manis Safari Nginti Lake competition, held at the Tanjung Manis Express Terminal. The event drew strong participation, with 146 competitors—29 in the Deep Lake Category and 119 in the Lake Shore Category.
Deputy Minister for Urban Development, Land Management and Natural Resources, who is also Kuala Rajang assemblyman, Datuk Len Talif Salleh, officiated the welcoming ceremony on Friday. Also present were PUSAKA General Manager Zainal Abidin Abdullah and Tanjung Manis Election Officer Ismail Kasah.

Datuk Len highlighted that the success of the Tukun Gaga project has prompted plans for its expansion to ensure wider community benefits. He noted that the project not only supports fisheries but also provides opportunities for ecotourism and related economic activities.
The Tanjung Manis Safari Nginti Festival further strengthened community ties, offering open-air cultural and recreational activities, including food fairs, traditional games, karaoke, and street markets. Organisers said the event continues to grow as a platform for cultural exchange and local economic promotion.
