Sarawak Premier Visits Airbus & ATR HQ in France to Boost Aviation Ties

Toulouse, France – Sarawak Premier, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg, led a state government delegation on a working visit to the ATR headquarters in Toulouse, France. ATR is the world’s top manufacturer of turboprop aircraft, used widely across short-haul regional flights.

The visit took place on Monday (local time) and aimed to strengthen ties between Sarawak and major aviation industry leaders. The Sarawak delegation was warmly welcomed and given a tour of ATR’s facilities, where they gained insight into aircraft production, technology, and potential opportunities for collaboration in aviation.

Later, the Premier and his team joined a professional networking session hosted at the Airspace Customer Showroom – Agoahub, run by Airbus International President, Wouter van Wersch. The session focused on aviation innovation, future opportunities for collaboration, and understanding how Airbus technology could benefit Sarawak’s development goals.

The working visit continued with a detailed tour of the Airbus customer showroom, showcasing Airbus’ latest innovations and global operations. One of the main highlights was a visit to the A350 final assembly plant, where the Sarawak delegation observed how one of the world’s most advanced passenger aircraft is built.

Among those accompanying the Premier were Sarawak Deputy Premier, Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, Minister of Transport, Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin, State Secretary, Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki, Attorney General, Dato Sri Saferi Ali, Finance Secretary, Dato Sri Dr. Wan Lizozman Wan Omar, and Deputy Secretary to the Government (Economic Planning & Development), Dato Sri Dr. Muhammad Abdullah Zaidel, along with other senior government officers.

This working visit marks a step forward for Sarawak’s ambition to grow its aviation sector, encourage investments, and explore strategic partnerships with global aviation giants.
