KUCHING, 24 April 2025 — The Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Dr Abang Haji Abdul Rahman Zohari bin Tun Datuk Abang Haji Openg, received a warm visit from Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka (DBP) officials at Wisma Bapa Malaysia this morning. The visit is seen as a meaningful effort to strengthen cooperation in language and literature development between DBP and the Sarawak government.

The DBP delegation was led by Director General YBrs. Dr Hazami bin Jahari, accompanied by other key figures from the institution. Among them were YBrs. Encik Abang Haliman bin Haji Abang Julai, Director of the Language and Literature Development Department and former DBP Sarawak Branch Director; YBrs. Dr Azizul bin Haji Ismail, the newly appointed Director of DBP Sarawak Branch; and Encik Nasir bin Hamid, DBP Corporate Officer.
The purpose of the visit was to foster closer collaboration between Sarawak and DBP in various initiatives that promote the Malay language, literature, and cultural heritage. Discussions during the meeting touched on efforts to enhance literary appreciation and language usage among Sarawakians, particularly in the digital and educational landscape.
Dr Hazami expressed his gratitude to the Sarawak Premier for the warm welcome and reaffirmed DBP’s commitment to supporting Sarawak’s cultural and linguistic goals. He also highlighted the importance of Sarawak’s role in national language development, especially in the context of Malaysia’s diverse linguistic landscape.
The Premier, in return, acknowledged DBP’s continuous efforts and contributions in strengthening the Malay language and encouraged more strategic programmes that could involve the youth, educators, and local communities.
