KUCHING – During the launch of the Asia Pacific Aerospace Conference and Exhibition (APACE) 2026, several strategic Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) were signed to accelerate Sarawak’s goal of becoming a regional hub for aerospace and new space innovation.
The ceremony was attended by Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Haji Abdul Rahman Zohari bin Tun Datuk Haji Openg, Premier of Sarawak, who highlighted that these agreements are crucial steps in turning policy into actionable partnerships under the Post-COVID-19 Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS 2030).
The first MoU focused on talent development and workforce security, with the Sarawak Ministry of Education, Innovation and Talent Development (MEITD) partnering with the Social Security Organisation (PERKESO) to establish frameworks for workforce readiness and social protection tailored to the aerospace sector.
A major tripartite agreement was signed between i-CATS University College, Unit Keselamatan dan Penguatkuasaan Sarawak (UKPS), and Turkish Aerospace Malaysia (TUSAS), aimed at strengthening aviation security, enforcement training, and aerospace technology transfer, linking academic outcomes directly to industry and national security needs.
In sustainable aviation and green technology, i-CATS University College partnered with H2 Energy Sdn Bhd to conduct research and development in hydrogen technology applications, supporting Sarawak’s ambitions for environmental sustainability and a green hydrogen economy.
To develop a highly skilled technical workforce, Sarawak Skills signed agreements with Prima Tech Solution Sdn Bhd (PTSSB) and Borneo Aerospace Sdn Bhd. These collaborations align vocational and technical education with the evolving needs of aerospace manufacturing, maintenance, and repair sectors.
The MoU signings also advanced Sarawak’s capabilities in space technology and data analytics. Sarawak Information Systems Sdn. Bhd. (SAINS) partnered with EarthEye Space Pte Ltd to enhance satellite data processing and geospatial intelligence.
Meanwhile, CENTEXS, Tsinghua University, and Asia Pacific Professional Development Sdn Bhd joined forces to focus on cutting-edge research, professional training, and curriculum co-development, promoting knowledge transfer and global competitiveness.
The Premier described these agreements as foundational to Sarawak’s aerospace vision, demonstrating how strategic policy is being converted into actionable programmes that link education, research, technology, and industry, positioning Sarawak as a leader in the regional aerospace and new space ecosystem.
Through these partnerships, Sarawak aims to build a skilled, innovative, and sustainable aerospace sector capable of generating high-value economic opportunities while contributing to technological and industrial advancement across ASEAN.
