Sarawak Premier Begins Two-Day Working Visit to Sabah

KOTA KINABALU: The Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Haji Abdul Rahman Zohari bin Tun Datuk Abang Haji Openg, arrived here in Kota Kinabalu on Friday evening for a two-day working visit.

He arrived at Kota Kinabalu International Airport (KKIA) around 5.30 when Datuk Joniston Bangkuai, Assistant Minister to the Sabah Chief Minister received him here.

His trip was the start of efforts to enhance energy and infrastructure collaboration between Sarawak and Sabah.

The Premier is expected to participate in the Opening Ceremony of the Energisation of Sarawak-Sabah Power Grid Interconnection Project, Sabah held at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC) on Saturday, 24 January during his visit.

The initiative is a milestone of regional cooperation in the energy sector, which will help improve security of electricity supply and long-term development objectives for both countries.

The Sarawak-Sabah Interconnection Project is one of several projects aimed at linking up power supply across Borneo to enable efficient electricity distribution as well as reduce reliance on standalone sources of power supply.

The officials have noted that this project will not only enhance energy security but also promote sustainable development in the region.

The (premier’s) courtesy visit is a continuation of our effort to show Sabah that we are serious about our desire to improve the relationship between Sarawak and Sabah particularly in the areas such as infrastructures, energy and economic development.

His attendance at the ceremony is said to affirm Sarawak’s contribution in promoting regional cooperation and backing projects that benefit communities in the two states.

Najib’s working visit will be rounded off with several meetings with Sabah leaders and stakeholders, underscoring the importance of working together facing shared challenges and opportunities.
