Sarawak and PWDC to Strengthen Collaboration for Women’s Empowerment

GEORGE TOWN – During a recent meeting at the Jawi House Café Gallery, Sarawak’s Minister of Women, Early Childhood Development and Community Wellbeing, Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah, commended the Penang Women’s Development Corporation (PWDC) for its initiatives in fostering women’s leadership and capacity building.

The minister highlighted the significance of knowledge exchange and collaboration between the two regions to enhance ongoing empowerment efforts.

Dato Sri Fatimah expressed a strong interest in exploring potential partnerships with PWDC. She specifically mentioned a desire to collaborate on leadership training modules, mentor exchange programs, and community empowerment initiatives.

She believes that such cooperation will contribute significantly to national progress through regional empowerment efforts.

The minister also noted the strong alignment between PWDC’s mission and the work of the Sarawak Women and Family Department (JWKS).

Both organizations are committed to building a robust ecosystem that supports women’s advancement in leadership, social, and economic spheres.

Dato Sri Fatimah conveyed her gratitude to PWDC for their hospitality and expressed optimism for future collaborations.

She hopes that a stronger partnership will encourage more women to step into leadership roles, influence decision-making, and drive positive change within their communities.

The Sarawak Women and Family Department has already launched various programs focusing on economic participation, capacity building, technology access, and holistic family development, all aimed at promoting gender equality and strengthening family institutions.

The meeting also featured presentations by PWDC officials. CEO Dato’ Ong Bee Leng provided a corporate briefing, while Nur Hasanah Ahmad Akhir, Head of Family and Child Development, presented on the “Age-Friendly City Initiative in Penang.”

Haziqah Zol Bahari, Head of Gender Inclusivity, discussed the “Gender Responsive and Participatory Budgeting (GRPB): Penang Model.”
