At the World Tourism Day 2025 Sarawak celebration (WTD), Deputy Minister for Tourism Datuk Sebastian Ting Chiew Yew, representing Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, emphasised that the theme Tourism and Sustainable Transformation reflects Sarawak’s long-term vision for an inclusive, environmentally conscious tourism sector.

“Tourism in Sarawak places communities at the centre. We aim to uplift local participation, protect the environment, and create meaningful experiences for visitors,” he said.

Datuk Sebastian noted that Sarawak’s tourism recovery remains robust, with visitor arrivals steadily increasing. This growth has been supported by internationally recognised events such as the Rainforest World Music Festival and the Borneo Jazz Festival, which continue to attract global audiences and showcase Sarawak’s cultural richness.

He also announced that Miri will host the 6th International Conference on Responsible Tourism and Hospitality (ICRTH) 2026 from 6 to 11 July next year. The conference is expected to bring together global experts, industry leaders, and academics to advance discussions on responsible tourism practices and hospitality innovation.

Sarawak’s tourism strategy is being strengthened through improved connectivity, new product development, and digitalisation. These initiatives are designed to enhance competitiveness and ensure the state contributes significantly to the national tourism campaign in 2026.
