SABAH – Sarawak is advancing its agricultural ties with Sabah by exploring the marketing of fertilizers produced by the Sarawak State Farmers’ Organisation (PPNS) to its Bornean neighbour.
Deputy Minister of Food Industry, Commodities and Regional Development, Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Ismail, said that the potential collaboration would not only contribute to Sabah’s agricultural yield but also open up broader opportunities for interstate partnerships in the agri-food industry.
“We see strong demand for high-quality fertilizers in Sabah, and the products developed by the Sarawak Farmers’ Association can meet these needs. We are now refining aspects such as logistics and marketing to ensure mutual benefit for both states,” he said during a recent working visit to the JJ Farm Onsoi Durian Orchard in Kampung Sugud, Penampang, Sabah.
The visit also provided the opportunity to discuss joint efforts to market Yellow Durian from Limbang and Lawas through cooperation with the Sabah Durian Association. These initiatives aim to strengthen agricultural export channels across Borneo.
JJ Farm, owned by Datuk Jamawi Jaafar, is among Sabah’s largest durian farms, cultivating over 2,000 trees of Musang King and Duri Hitam varieties across 200 acres. The farm also grows other premium crops, including avocado and jackfruit.
Joining the delegation were Batu Danau State Assemblyman, Dato Paulus Palu Gumbang, and other distinguished guests. The visit marked a significant step in bridging Sarawak and Sabah’s agricultural efforts, aiming to position the sector as a key driver of the regional economy in Borneo.
