KUCHING (June 5): Sarawak has been recognised globally as a key player in hydrogen production, says Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

In a significant announcement during the Gawai Dayak celebration in Betong today, Premier Abang Johari highlighted Sarawak’s emergence as a prominent figure in the global hydrogen production landscape. He attributed this recognition to the collective efforts of Sarawakians, emphasizing the pivotal role the state plays in combating global warming through green energy initiatives.

Global Recognition and Invitations for Talks

Premier Abang Johari revealed that Sarawak’s advancements in hydrogen production have garnered attention internationally, leading to invitations from various countries to discuss green energy strategies. This recognition solidifies Sarawak’s position as a key player in the region’s sustainable energy sector.

Sarawak’s Economic Potential and Development Plans

Additionally, Premier Abang Johari underscored Sarawak’s potential to become ASEAN’s economic hub. He outlined several strategic developments, including the acquisition of Bintulu Port, proposed energy hubs in Samalaju and Kidurong, and plans for transborneo gas pipes. These initiatives, he believes, will generate high-paying jobs for Sarawakians, further bolstering the state’s economic prosperity.

Focus on Green Fuel and Technological Advancement

Highlighting Sarawak’s commitment to sustainable practices, Premier Abang Johari mentioned efforts to produce green fuel, such as Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) from algae. He emphasized the importance of technological excellence in driving the state’s progress, announcing plans for the Centre for Technology Excellence Sarawak (Centexs) to train local talent in technology development.

Infrastructure and Community Development

In a bid to enhance infrastructure and community well-being, Premier Abang Johari approved the establishment of Centexs in Betong and proposed the setup of international schools in several districts. He also announced housing and commercial developments at the Betong junction, aiming to accommodate 1,000 housing units in phases. These initiatives extend to areas like Spaoh and Batang Ai, where further development projects are underway.

Conclusion
