KUCHING – Sarawak has finalized an agreement to export green hydrogen to Singapore, marking a significant step in the region’s renewable energy sector.
The deal utilizes a specialized storage technology developed by SEDC Energy Sdn Bhd (SEDCE) and its partner, Hydrexia Holding Limited.
The core technology, known as Metal Hydride Hydrogen Storage (MHX), allows hydrogen to be transported safely in a solid state as magnesium hydride.
Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Abang Openg announced the pact following the Sustainability and Renewable Energy Forum (SAREF 4.0) at the Borneo Convention Centre, Kuching.
He confirmed that a Singaporean entity will be the buyer, importing hydrogen produced in Sarawak.
The Premier identified SEDC Energy, in which the state’s Economic Development Corporation holds a stake, as the local company central to the agreement.
While the specific volume of the initial exports was not disclosed, the Premier emphasized the achievement of establishing a viable production and supply chain for solid hydrogen.
This initiative is a key component of Sarawak’s broader strategy to become a major player in the green economy.
The announcement was made after the Premier received a courtesy call from Brunei’s Deputy Minister of Power, Dato Seri Paduka Awang Mohamad Azmi Mohd Hanifah, highlighting regional interest in energy collaboration.
