Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg, said collaboration among five local authorities in the Kuching division is vital for the success of this vision. These authorities are the Kuching North City Commission (DBKU), Kuching South City Council (MBKS), Padawan Municipal Council (MPP), Kota Samarahan Municipal Council (MPKS), and Serian District Council (MDS).

Speaking at the Groundbreaking Ceremony of the new MPP Office in Padawan, the Premier highlighted the importance of seamless cooperation. Despite operating under separate jurisdictions, the councils must establish close links to ensure effective long-term development planning.

“DBKU, MBKS, MPP, MPKS, and MDS must pursue seamless development. While they each govern their own areas, there must be interconnection among them because this is about planning for our future,” he said.

He pointed out that Sarawak’s Autonomous Rapid Transit (ART) project, which will connect Kuching to Serian through Kota Samarahan, serves as a prime example of integrated development that requires cross-boundary planning and cooperation.

The Premier also stressed that all development must be guided by smart city principles—prioritising eco-friendly approaches, reducing carbon emissions, and safeguarding public health.

“What is emitted in the city must not affect health. Today, more people are falling sick due to polluted air and smoke. We must ensure our cities remain clean and safe,” he added.
