KUCHING: A total of 147 individuals from various backgrounds were honoured at the Sarawak State Honours and Medals Conferring Ceremony held at the Sarawak State Astana in Petra Jaya on Tuesday. The ceremony recognised outstanding service, dedication and contributions to the state and its people across public administration, community service, academia and other sectors.
The ceremony was officiated by the Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sarawak, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, who was accompanied by his wife, Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusi. The dignified event followed Sarawak’s long-standing tradition of acknowledging individuals who have played important roles in strengthening governance, social harmony and development in the state.
Tanjong State Assemblyman Datu Azizul Annuar Adenan led the list of recipients after being conferred the Most High Order of the Sarawak Star, Johan Star. His recognition reflected his contributions and commitment to public service and leadership within Sarawak.
For the Public Administration Medal, the Excellent Service Medal was awarded to eight senior officers, including division residents, directors and key officials from state departments such as the Sarawak Public Communications Unit, the Mufti Department and the Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industries and Performing Arts. Their awards highlighted consistent efforts in ensuring efficient administration and service delivery.
Several individuals were also recognised under the State Hero Medal category. Three recipients received the Perak level award, while one individual was honoured with the Bronze level medal. These honours acknowledged dedication and sacrifice in service to the state and community.
The ceremony also saw the conferring of the Most Excellent Order of the Star of Sarawak and the Most Revered Order of the Sarawak Star to professionals, elected representatives, academics and community leaders. Among them were assemblymen, professors, senior officers and individuals who have contributed through education, public safety, administration and social development.
In addition, recipients were honoured under the Service Medal, the Honorable Sarawak Star, the Bintang Kenyalang Sarawak and the Meritorious Service Medal categories. These awards were presented to individuals from diverse backgrounds, including civil servants, educators, healthcare workers and community contributors. The wide representation reflected Sarawak’s inclusive approach in recognising service at all levels.
Meanwhile, 34 individuals received the Bentara Bintang Sarawak award, further marking the state’s appreciation for dedication and commitment shown over the years.
The ceremony concluded with congratulations extended to all recipients, as the event once again underlined Sarawak’s respect for service, integrity and responsibility. Such recognition not only honours individual achievements but also encourages continued commitment towards the progress and unity of Sarawak.
