Sarawak Govt, Community Rally to Support Four Orphaned Siblings in Mukah

MUKAH – The Sarawak state government, in collaboration with local communities and institutions, has stepped forward to aid four siblings who were recently orphaned following the passing of their father, Allahyarham Abu Kassim Mohamad. The children, left without a home, are now under the care of their aunt and legal guardian, Hawi Shafiee.

Minister of Women, Child Development and Community Welfare Sarawak, Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah, personally visited the affected family in Kampung Sungai Alo yesterday. She led the delegation responsible for delivering essential aid and financial support to ensure the children’s welfare and education are not disrupted.

In her statement, Dato Sri Fatimah announced that the children will each receive a monthly RM800 Child Assistance Scheme payment, along with an additional RM50 monthly from the state’s Special Allocation (TPN) for a year, starting August 2025 through July 2026.

To further ease the burden, a one-off RM400 cash assistance has been transferred to the guardian’s account to address immediate household needs.

The show of solidarity extended beyond government channels. Educational institutions including SK Kampung Seberang, SMK Three Rivers, SMK St Patrick, and Tabung Baitulmal Sarawak (TBS) Mukah Branch contributed financial and basic necessities to support the siblings.

“This assistance is to ensure that despite the absence of parents, these children can live and continue their education in a structured and supported environment,” Dato Sri Fatimah said.

She also urged the broader community to remain vigilant and compassionate toward such vulnerable families.

“Though the loss is immense, continuous support from society can offer these children the strength and hope to move forward,” she added.
