Sarawak Governor Concludes 65th Tilawah and Hafazan Al-Quran Ceremony

SERIAN – The 65th Sarawak Level Tilawah and Hafazan Al-Quran Prize Presentation Ceremony was successfully held at the Serian Conference Centre on 7 February, with His Excellency Tun Pehin Sri Dr Haji Wan Junaidi bin Tuanku Jaafar, Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sarawak, and Yang Amat Berbahagia Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah binti Mohd Sanusi in attendance.

The distinguished guests were warmly received by senior state leaders, including YB Dato Sri Roland Sagah Wee Inn, Minister of Education, Innovation and Talent Development; YB Dato Idris bin Buang, Deputy Speaker of the Sarawak Legislative Assembly; YB Datuk Dr Haji Abdul Rahman bin Haji Junaidi, Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department; YB Datuk Martin Ben, Deputy Minister of Agricultural Modernisation and Regional Development II; and Datuk Haji Misnu bin Haji Taha, President of the Sarawak Islamic Council. Also present were judicial and religious leaders, government officials, and community representatives.

The ceremony commenced with the announcement of results by Dato’ Haji Mustapha Kamal bin Haji Ahmad Fauzi, Chairman of the Panel of Judges, followed by a Quran recitation from the participant who achieved the highest marks.

Otakyun Event 2026

The highlight of the evening was the prize presentation by His Excellency Tun Pehin Sri and YABhg Toh Puan. Mr Jubni bin Sulong was named Best Qari, while Ms Nur Syakura binti Mohamad Musa received the title of Best Qariah.

In the Hafazan categories, Mr Muhammad Najdat Arsyad Mazalan bin Abdul Rahman emerged champion for juzuk 1-30, Mr Harith Zakwan bin Sebli won for juzuk 1-20, and Mr Azizul Azmin bin Abdul Rajak secured the top spot for juzuk 1-10. For the female participants, Izyan Nur Fazreena binti Ismail won the juzuk 1-20 category, while Adeela binti Bokhari triumphed in the juzuk 1-10 category.

The ceremony concluded with prayers led by Ustaz Haji Mohammad Ihsan bin Haji Haidzir, Deputy Grand Imam of Sarawak.

In his closing remarks, Tun Pehin Sri congratulated all winners and expressed hope that their achievements would inspire greater commitment to upholding Islamic teachings.

He emphasised that strengthening appreciation of the Quran is vital in nurturing a knowledgeable and moral generation, ensuring the Holy Book remains a guiding light for life.

The event underscored Sarawak’s dedication to promoting Quranic values and fostering a culture of learning and spirituality among its people.
