KUCHING, 21 May – The Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sarawak, Tun Pehin Sri Dr. Haji Wan Junaidi bin Tuanku Jaafar, together with his wife, Yang Amat Berbahagia Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah binti Mohd Sanusi, is set to depart for the Holy Land on 23 May 2026 to perform the Hajj pilgrimage. The sacred journey marks one of the most significant religious commitments in Islam and is expected to be undertaken together with close family members.
According to the official statement, the Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sarawak will be accompanied by his children, Sharifah Fariah and Sharifah Nong-Jasima, as well as her husband, Mohd Hakeem. The family’s participation reflects a moment of unity and gratitude as they prepare to fulfil the fifth pillar of Islam.
In a message shared ahead of the departure, TYT Tun expressed deep thankfulness to Allah SWT for the opportunity and blessing to perform Hajj with his family. He described the journey as a meaningful spiritual calling and asked for prayers from the people of Sarawak for smooth travel arrangements and a blessed pilgrimage.
He also conveyed a sincere request for forgiveness from the public, acknowledging that during his service and responsibilities to the state and its people, there may have been shortcomings, unintended mistakes, or words that could have caused discomfort to any party. The message reflects the traditional values of humility and accountability expected from public leadership in Malaysia.
For the duration of the pilgrimage, TYT Tun also noted that his use of mobile communication will be limited. He may not be able to respond to calls, WhatsApp messages, or personal communications except for urgent or important matters. This is to ensure full focus on religious duties and worship throughout the journey.
The Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sarawak further expressed hope that the entire pilgrimage would be made easy, safe, and accepted by Allah SWT, with prayers that he and his family be granted Hajj mabrur, a pilgrimage that is accepted and blessed.
As Sarawak prepares to send off its head of state for this significant spiritual journey, many are expected to extend their prayers and well-wishes, reflecting the strong cultural and religious respect for the Hajj pilgrimage in the Malaysian community.
The departure stands as both a personal milestone and a moment of reflection for the state, highlighting faith, leadership, and humility in public life.
