Speaking at the opening of the 2025 Basketball League on Friday at the Grand Palace Restaurant, Huang underscored the importance of structured programmes to both elevate the quality of the game and encourage greater youth participation.
“I hope that in the future, more young people will be able to get involved in basketball. To produce more quality talents, we need to hold systematic training, including special training for students at the primary and secondary school levels,” Huang said.
The tournament, running from 15 August to 7 September 2025, was described by Huang as a reflection of the Sarikei community’s strong enthusiasm for basketball. He also praised the state government under Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg and the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) administration for their continued commitment to upgrading school facilities, sports equipment, and infrastructure to benefit Sarikei and Bintangor residents.
