35 Organisations in Sarikei Benefit from Rural Project Grants

SARIKEI – A total of 35 organisations in Sarikei have received Rural Small Project Grants (MRP), strengthening community development across schools, associations, religious institutions and clan organisations.

The ceremony, held at the People’s Representative Service Centre, was officiated by Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability and Repok State Assemblyman (ADUN), Dato’ Sri Huang Tiong Sii.

He emphasised that the grants reflect the government’s role as the main pillar of development, ensuring that basic infrastructure and community facilities continue to improve.

Dato’ Sri Huang, who is also the Sarikei Member of Parliament, highlighted his decade-long service in the constituency, during which he consistently sought allocations to upgrade rural and urban roads, improve school facilities and enhance places of worship.

He noted that these efforts have contributed to the successful construction of roads and bridges linking Sarikei to Tanjung Manis, a project made possible through strong community support.

He expressed gratitude to the multi-racial community in Sarikei for their cooperation, which has been vital in driving development projects.

He also extended appreciation to Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg for his assistance and commitment in ensuring the success of various initiatives in Sarikei and Meradong.

“These achievements are the result of close cooperation and the strong support of the people,” he said, underscoring the importance of unity in sustaining progress.

Education, he added, remains a priority in his service as a representative. Beyond infrastructure upgrades, he has consistently provided assistance such as clothes, shoes and school bags to students annually, regardless of their racial background.

This initiative reflects his commitment to ensuring that every child has access to basic educational needs.

The distribution of MRP grants is expected to further empower local organisations, enabling them to implement programmes that benefit the wider community.

The initiative also highlights the government’s ongoing commitment to inclusive development, ensuring that Sarikei continues to thrive as a hub of growth and cooperation.
