SARIKEI – The Sarikei Unity Run 7.0 drew an impressive 2,345 participants, reflecting the strong community spirit and enthusiasm for healthy living in the district.
Organised by the Sarikei District Office, the event has become a key platform for fostering unity among residents while promoting recreational activities.
The farewell ceremony for participants was officiated by Deputy Minister of Urban Planning, Land Administration and Environment, Datuk Len Talif Salleh, alongside Pemanca Chan Pan Chan, who represented Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability, Dato’ Sri Huang Tiong Sii, also the Member of Parliament for Sarikei and Assemblyman for Repok.
The run featured two categories: the 10-kilometre race, which saw 486 participants (288 men and 198 women), and the 3-kilometre family-friendly category, which attracted 1,859 participants, highlighting strong interest in recreational activities suitable for all ages.
Sarikei Resident, Datu Micheal Ronnie Langgong, noted that participation has steadily increased since 2022, underscoring the growing popularity of the Unity Run.
He said the event continues to build on its excellent record, strengthening community ties year after year.
Adding to the festive atmosphere, the inaugural Christmas Breakfast & Fair at the Sarikei Civic Hall featured 60 stalls under the Doremart Christmas Fair.
Local traders benefited from the opportunity to showcase products and generate income, further boosting the district’s economy.
Side activities such as pickleball competitions, Talent Shows, and the Most Eating Competition added variety and entertainment, making the programme not only a sporting event but also a celebration of Sarikei’s multi-racial harmony.
The Unity Run has become a symbol of inclusivity, encouraging healthy lifestyles while reinforcing community solidarity.
With its growing success, the event is expected to remain a highlight in Sarikei’s calendar, strengthening both social bonds and local economic activity.
