Second Limbang Bridge to Boost Connectivity, Completion Set for June 2026

Second Limbang Bridge to Boost Connectivity, Completion Set for June 2026

LIMBANG: The construction of the Second Sungai Limbang Bridge is progressing steadily, with 76 percent of physical work completed, and the project is on track for full completion by June 2026.

Deputy Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, highlighted this development during a recent visit to the project site. He noted that the bridge is a vital component of Sarawak’s broader infrastructure initiative, which includes the Northern Coastal Highway (dual carriageway) and the Sarawak-Sabah Link Road (SSLR) Phase 2.

“The Northern Coastal Highway project will be rolled out in five packages covering Limbang and Lawas. Each package will be managed by a different leading contractor,” said Awang Tengah. “Since a new contractor took over in 2023, the bridge project has shown impressive progress. Materials and manpower are sufficient, allowing construction to proceed at an accelerated pace.”

The bridge is expected to serve as a critical link to the Northern Coastal Highway, significantly improving transportation efficiency and enhancing economic opportunities for the region. It will also shorten travel time to neighbouring Brunei and spur development in the rural areas across Sungai Limbang.

Awang Tengah was joined on the site visit by Deputy Minister of Food Industry, Commodities and Regional Development Sarawak, Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Ismail; Batu Danau Assemblyman Dato Paulus Palu Gumbang; and senior officials from the Public Works Department (JKR) and related agencies.

In addition, the Deputy Premier was briefed on the progress of the Integrated Administration Centre (IAC) Limbang project, which has surpassed 67 percent completion and is expected to be ready by May 2026.

He also addressed the ongoing discussions with Brunei Darussalam regarding the proposed construction of the CIQ Pendam facility, which remains under negotiation.

The Second Limbang Bridge is poised to become a major catalyst for connectivity and growth in northern Sarawak, enhancing accessibility and economic integration across the Limbang River.
