KUCHING – N11 Batu Lintang Assemblyman See Chee How has called on community leaders and parents to embrace the “power of example” as a guiding principle to inspire the younger generation and strengthen societal progress.
Speaking at the Sarawak Pui Clan Association Academic Excellence Awards, held in conjunction with the association’s 9th General Meeting (2025–2027), See praised the association’s leadership for their dedication to both their members and the education of youth within the clan.
“A responsible leader propels a community forward, just as a virtuous family nurtures outstanding individuals,” he remarked, stressing that self-reflection and leading by example are vital for sustainable growth in organisations, families, and nations.
Quoting the Chinese proverb, “It takes ten years to grow a tree, but a hundred years to nurture a person,” See highlighted the urgency of cultivating young people who not only excel academically but also embody integrity, responsibility, and global awareness. He encouraged award recipients to remain passionate about learning while staying connected to their roots.
“This award is not just a recognition of your hard work, but also a reflection of the association’s vision in nurturing young talent. I hope you will remember to give back to the association and society in the future, ensuring our values are passed down through generations,” he added.
See expressed confidence that the Sarawak Pui Clan Association could serve as a “cradle for high-calibre talents,” contributing significantly to Sarawak’s future. He also urged traditional clan associations to innovate in order to remain relevant to younger generations, noting that cultural preservation must be balanced with modern initiatives.
He commended the association’s diverse programmes, including respect-for-the-elderly events and ancestral worship rites, which combine social welfare with cultural heritage. “By creating new resources and opportunities, associations can strengthen their collective impact, benefiting both their members and the wider community’s development,” he concluded.
Meanwhile, Penghulu Dato’ Alex Pui Chow Hin, Chairman of the Sarawak Pui Clan Association, underscored the importance of education as the cornerstone of societal progress. He explained that the tradition of presenting academic incentives reflects the association’s mission to prioritise education and nurture the younger generation.
Congratulating the award recipients, Dato’ Alex Pui reminded students that while academic success opens doors, character and integrity ultimately determine how far one can go. He urged them to balance their studies with social responsibility, while also expressing gratitude to parents for their sacrifices.
“The awards presented by the association today serve as an encouragement to the students, but the true credit for their success belongs to the parents who have walked alongside them every step of the way,” he said.
Dato’ Alex Pui also noted that 2026 marks the association’s 25th anniversary, a milestone to be celebrated with silver jubilee events in Kuching. He expressed hope that members from across Sarawak and abroad would join in commemorating the association’s achievements and shaping its future vision.
The event, attended by dignitaries, community leaders, and families, reinforced the association’s role in promoting education, cultural heritage, and unity among its members.
