Senator Susan Allocates RM34,000 in Rural Grants

SRI AMAN – A total of RM34,000 has been disbursed under the Small Rural Project (MRP) allocation to support various community institutions in a recent ceremony. The event highlighted ongoing efforts to bolster rural development and educational initiatives within the region.

The funds were distributed to three primary schools and a women’s organisation, each receiving contributions aimed at enhancing their operational capacities. Sekolah Kebangsaan St. Paul BantingSK Ijok Engkilili, and SK Ridan Engkilili were granted RM10,000 apiece to support educational programmes and infrastructure improvements.

Additionally, the Rumah Tayan JKKK Women’s Bureau located in Lepong Sarikei received an allocation of RM4,000. This group is recognised for its active involvement in traditional handicraft production, including woven bags and baskets, which serve as a cultural and economic asset for the local community.

Senator Susan Chemerai Anding emphasised that the MRP donations reflect her sustained commitment to fostering educational advancement and empowering rural populations. She noted that the selection of recipients was based on their active implementation of community and economic programmes.

She elaborated, “For example, the Rumah Tayan Women’s Bureau is very active in producing handicrafts such as weaving bags and baskets. It is hoped that this fund can help and encourage them to continue developing handicrafts that are the identity of the local community.”

The senator further underscored that the MRP scheme is a key government initiative designed to strengthen rural development across multiple sectors. It focuses on education, economic resilience, and overall community well-being, aligning with broader national goals for equitable growth.

The MRP framework is part of a larger strategy to address disparities between urban and rural areas by providing targeted financial support. Such allocations enable local institutions to undertake projects that might otherwise be unfeasible due to budget constraints.

In Sri Aman, the distribution ceremony served as a platform to acknowledge the contributions of various stakeholders. Attendees included school representatives and community leaders who discussed the potential impact of the funds on their respective organisations.

Educational institutions plan to utilise the MRP grants for upgrading facilities, purchasing learning materials, and organising extracurricular activities. These enhancements are expected to improve the overall learning environment and student outcomes in the long term.

For the women’s bureau, the injection of funds will aid in scaling up their handicraft production, potentially opening up new market opportunities. This aligns with efforts to preserve cultural heritage while generating sustainable income for rural households.

The Malaysian government has consistently prioritised rural transformation through schemes like the MRP, which are administered by elected representatives. These projects are instrumental in ensuring that development reaches the grassroots level, particularly in remote regions.

Senator Susan has been actively involved in similar initiatives throughout her tenure, focusing on areas such as education, women’s rights, and economic diversification. Her work complements state-level policies aimed at enhancing the quality of life for all Sarawakians.

The event concluded with expressions of gratitude from recipients, who affirmed their commitment to utilising the funds effectively. Future monitoring and evaluation processes will be implemented to ensure transparency and accountability in the use of MRP allocations.
