SERIAN – The upcoming Serian Division Children’s Day Celebration 2025, to be held at the end of November, will emphasise not simply recreation but a deeper focus on safeguarding children’s rights, well-being and development.
Jointly organised by the Serian Division Social Welfare Department (JKM), the local Child Protection Team (PPKK) and SK Krangan, the ceremony will be officiated by Datuk Maclaine @ Martin Ben, Deputy Minister of Food Industry, Commodities and Regional Development of Sarawak and the Kedup Assemblyman.
In a coordination session at SK Krangan, Melin Sunang, Chairman of the Serian Division PPKK, explained that the purpose extends beyond entertainment. Rather, the event is designed to raise collective awareness among parents and residents of their responsibilities to protect children from abuse, neglect or exploitation.
“We want the community to understand that every child has the right to be protected, loved and given the opportunity to grow up in a safe and positive environment,” he said.
Organisers expect participation from over 300 individuals, including students, educators, parents and villagers from five nearby communities: Krangan Trusan, Krangan Jaya, Krangan Engkatak, Krangan Baru and Krangan Tekalong.
The half-day programme will include aerobics, sporting contests and an inauguration ceremony. These activities are intended to be both engaging and symbolic of the broader message: that child protection is a shared obligation.
The Child Protection Teams such as PPKK operate under Malaysia’s legal framework for safeguarding children, including the Child Act 2001, which mandates coordinated services to prevent and respond to abuse and neglect.
With this celebration, Serian aims to foster a more vigilant and caring community, reinforcing that children’s rights are integral to social responsibility for all.
