SERIAN – Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Ports (Development and Infrastructure), YB Datuk Ir. Aidel Lariwoo, carried out an official working visit to several major road projects in Serian Division on 7 April 2026.
The visit was organised by the Sarawak Public Works Department (JKR) to provide updates on progress and challenges faced during implementation.
In the morning session, the deputy minister inspected two key projects: the Padawan Road Phase 1 Upgrading Project and the Temong, Tepoi, Sadir and Tebedu Road Construction Project.
Both initiatives are designed to improve connectivity between rural and urban areas, ensuring smoother travel and safer road conditions for local communities.
Later in the afternoon, attention shifted to the Proposed Serian–Gedong–Samarahan Dual Carriageway Project.
The briefing covered Package 1, which includes Section 1A, upgrading the existing road from Simpang Rayang to Simpang Tanah Puteh, and Section 1B, involving the construction of a new road from Simpang Tanah Puteh to Isthmus Gedong.
The Serian Division Engineer, together with the contractor, presented detailed progress reports and outlined work plans for the coming months.
They also highlighted site challenges, including terrain and logistical issues, which are being addressed to ensure the projects remain on schedule.
According to JKR Sarawak, all projects are expected to be completed between 2027 and 2028, aligning with the government’s infrastructure development timeline.
Once finished, the upgraded road network will link strategic areas such as villages, schools, houses of worship, health facilities, and government offices.
The new infrastructure will also incorporate modern features, including paved cycling lanes and wide shoulders to accommodate utility facilities. These enhancements are intended to improve safety, accessibility, and comfort for road users.
Officials emphasised that the projects will act as a catalyst for socio-economic growth in Serian Division. Improved connectivity is expected to boost tourism, support agricultural activities, and open new areas for development.
The government believes that better transport infrastructure will enhance the quality of life for residents while promoting sustainable economic expansion.
Datuk Ir. Aidel Lariwoo reaffirmed the Sarawak government’s commitment to ensuring that all projects are delivered according to specifications and quality standards.
He stressed that infrastructure development remains a priority for the state, with the ultimate goal of benefiting the people and strengthening Sarawak’s long-term growth.
