SERIAN – The Serian District Civil Defence Force successfully managed a wildlife case on Sunday, 3 May 2026, after a pangolin was reported outside a residential property at Lot 853, Batu 31, Jalan Mamat Lama.
The MyASPA-O Alpha Squad received the emergency call via TM and immediately deployed four members to the location.
Upon arrival, the team conducted a safety inspection to ensure the area was secure before approaching the animal.
The pangolin, identified by the complainant as being near the house, was carefully captured using a snare method.
Civil Defence officers confirmed that the operation was completed smoothly and without any unwanted incidents.
Following the successful capture, the squad reported the conclusion of the case and returned to the District Operations Control Centre (PKOD) in Serian.
Officials emphasised that such wildlife encounters are becoming more common in rural districts, where natural habitats overlap with residential areas.
Civil Defence officers reminded residents that pangolins, though not aggressive, are protected species and should not be harmed.
They urged the public to contact emergency services immediately if similar cases occur, rather than attempting to handle the animals themselves.
Local residents expressed relief at the swift intervention, noting that the presence of wild animals near homes can cause concern, particularly for families with children.
The Civil Defence Force highlighted that their readiness and professionalism are key to ensuring community safety during unexpected incidents.
Authorities also stressed the importance of public awareness in managing wildlife encounters. By reporting cases promptly, residents enable emergency services to respond effectively and prevent risks from escalating.
