MIRI (Aug 12) – A 20-year-old driver sustained severe injuries in a dramatic accident late last night when his car collided with an electric pole on the Miri-Bintulu coastal road, near the Tawakal estate. The incident underscores the perils of driving on this busy stretch and highlights the swift response of emergency services.

Accident Details and Response

The Batu Niah fire station received an urgent distress call at 8:39 PM regarding the crash. Fire Chief Rary Binji confirmed that a team of seven firefighters was quickly mobilized to the scene.

“Upon arrival, our team found the vehicle had veered off the road and crashed into an electric pole,” Binji explained. “The car was traveling from Bintulu towards Miri when the accident happened.”

Immediate Actions Taken

The first responders discovered that the driver had been extracted from the vehicle by bystanders before emergency services arrived. The driver was found unconscious and suffered from severe injuries.

“The quick actions of the public were crucial in getting the victim out of the car,” Binji noted. “Our main priority was to ensure he received medical attention as swiftly as possible.”

Medical and Firefighting Efforts

The injured driver was promptly handed over to paramedics from the Ladang 3 clinic. Medical professionals took over the care of the victim, ensuring he received the necessary treatment for his serious condition.

Firefighters completed their operation and cleared the scene by 9:50 PM. Their efficiency helped to minimize further disruptions on the road, which is a vital link between Miri and Bintulu.
