Sibu Associations Granted RM415,000 in Development Funds

SIBU – A substantial allocation of development funding totalling RM415,000 has been distributed to fifteen local associations and organisations in a ceremony held this week.

The contributions were provided by the Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, who is also the Dudong State Assemblyman, Dato’ Sri Tiong King Sing.

The presentation of ceremonial cheques took place at the Dudong Branch PDP Service Centre, underscoring an ongoing commitment to bolstering community-led initiatives.

Councillor Dato Teo Boon Siew, who addressed the recipients, placed significant emphasis on the principles of fiscal responsibility and transparency.

He urged all groups to utilise the monies judiciously and strictly in accordance with the original purpose outlined in their applications. This, he noted, is fundamental to ensuring the effectiveness and integrity of every project undertaken.

“At present, financial matters are highly sensitive,” Dato Teo Boon Siew stated during the event. “Therefore, when submitting an application, please specify the exact amount of allocation required and guarantee its use for the approved purpose.”

His advice extended to a clear warning against diverting funds for personal use or for matters unrelated to the sanctioned project.

He clarified that any deviation from the approved spending plan constitutes a regulatory violation and could lead to formal action being taken. “Most importantly, do not misuse the funds and do not neglect the submission of financial reports,” he added.

To facilitate proper oversight, each recipient was instructed to prepare a comprehensive financial statement upon the completion of their respective programme or project. This measure is intended to streamline the monitoring process conducted by the relevant authorities.

The list of beneficiary organisations reflects a diverse cross-section of Sibu’s community fabric. Among those receiving support were the Zong Ho Mukah Friendship Association and The Lau King Howe Hospital Memorial Museum Association. The Malaysia-China Chamber of Commerce (Sarawak Branch) was also a recipient.

A notable beneficiary was the Vui Neng Association, Sarawak, which was allocated the largest single donation of RM100,000. This substantial grant highlights the scale of support available for significant community projects.

This financial injection represents a continuation of Dato’ Sri Tiong King Sing’s dedicated efforts to underpin welfare, social, and local development activities within the Dudong constituency.

Such initiatives are vital for empowering grassroots organisations, enabling them to contribute more effectively to local progress and social cohesion.

The distribution of funds is seen as a critical enabler for non-profit groups and associations that often operate with limited budgets.

By providing this financial backing, the initiative aims to foster a vibrant civil society where cultural preservation, commercial networking, and community welfare projects can thrive.

The strict conditions attached to the grants ensure that public money is accountable and delivers measurable benefits to the wider community.
