Live Music Rocks Sibu Jaya as Sempurai Gundai Wins Battle of the Bands

Live Music Rocks Sibu Jaya as Sempurai Gundai Wins Battle of the Bands

SIBU JAYA – The Battle of the Bands Showdown lit up Sibu Jaya last night, drawing music lovers from across Sarawak for an evening of electrifying performances. The event, part of the Menuju 2026 – Terokai Sibu, Rasai Malaysia celebrations, also highlighted the state’s creative energy ahead of Visit Malaysia 2026 (VM2026).

Bands from Sibu, Kuching, Kapit, Kanowit, and Sibu Jaya battled for a share of the RM8,500 prize pool, delivering performances that reflected the region’s musical diversity and youthful artistry. The audience was treated to a dynamic showcase, with each group bringing its own style and flair to the stage.

At the end of the night, Sempurai Gundai from Kapit was crowned champion, taking home RM5,000. Chromatic Octave from Sibu secured first runner-up with RM2,500, while Kuching’s Silent Killer claimed second runner-up, winning RM1,000. The competition was judged by industry professionals, including Jumbull Murdock and Patrick Bin Kamis, ensuring a fair and high-standard evaluation.

Organisers said the strong turnout from both performers and the public demonstrates Sibu Jaya’s rising reputation as a hub for live music and cultural creativity. The event also aims to boost community-based tourism experiences and highlight Sarawak’s attractions in the lead-up to VM2026.

More activities are planned from December 29 to 31, culminating in the grand year-end celebration. Residents and visitors are encouraged to come early, bring family and friends, and enjoy the vibrant atmosphere that showcases Sibu Jaya’s growing creative scene.

As Sarawak prepares for Visit Malaysia 2026, events like the Battle of the Bands offer a glimpse of the state’s lively music culture and the potential to attract both local and international visitors.
