SIBU – The Sibu Kidney Foundation (SKF) renewed its commitment to supporting patients and promoting kidney health, continuing a mission that started more than three decades ago.
Founded in 1993, the non-profit organisation provides affordable dialysis treatment and medical support to patients in Sibu and across Sarawak’s central region. Chairman Vincent Lau Lee Ming said the foundation’s work rests on compassion and strong backing from the local community.
Speaking during the World Kidney Day celebration on Sunday, Lau said SKF remains focused on helping kidney patients through dialysis services, medical assistance, and public education. He added that the foundation aims to improve and extend lives through consistent care and community involvement.
Lau also stressed the importance of awareness and early detection. Many patients learn about kidney disease only after the condition reaches an advanced stage. Because of this, SKF runs education programmes and health screening activities to encourage regular check-ups and healthier habits.
The event included free health tests, blood screening packages, expert talks, and medical consultations for patients, families, and members of the public. These activities aimed to increase understanding of kidney health and motivate residents to monitor their condition regularly.
Guest nephrologist Tiong Kung Ung delivered a session focused on diet management for dialysis patients and individuals living with early-stage chronic kidney disease. The session explained how daily habits and proper nutrition support kidney health.
Lau said SKF’s work reaches beyond treatment. The organisation also places strong focus on prevention and public awareness. Through medical services and community education, the foundation works to reduce late-stage diagnoses and improve health outcomes in the region.
With more than 30 years of service, SKF remains an important support system for kidney patients in Sibu and nearby areas. Its continued efforts reflect a long-standing dedication to community health and patient care.
