KUCHING, Nov 4 — A 13-year-old boy was arrested in Sibu for performing a risky “Superman” stunt on his motorcycle, endangering other road users. The teenager was detained during a coordinated traffic operation conducted by Sibu District Police Headquarters (IPD).
The “Superman” stunt, a dangerous move where the rider lies flat on the seat, arms and legs extended, resembles the flying style of the superhero Superman. This risky maneuver poses a serious threat not only to the rider but also to other motorists.
According to IPD Sibu’s statement, the boy was arrested under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which deals with reckless and dangerous driving. The operation, which took place over two days, began on November 2 and continued into the early morning of November 3, involving 36 officers from the Sungai Merah, Sentral, Sibu Jaya, and Lanang police stations.
This traffic operation was part of the police’s ongoing efforts to curb dangerous driving behaviors and promote road safety. During the operation, police issued a total of 66 summonses for a variety of traffic violations. These offences ranged from failure to display vehicle registration numbers to driving without a valid license and unauthorized exhaust pipe modifications.
In addition, the police impounded 17 motorcycles found with illegal modifications under Section 60 of the Road Transport Act 1987. These modifications are often linked to high-speed stunts and risky maneuvers, raising safety concerns for all road users.
Sibu police have cautioned young riders and their families about the risks of these stunts and have urged parents to educate their children on road safety. With increased monitoring and strict enforcement, authorities hope to reduce such incidents and promote safer roads for everyone.
