Silent Run 5.0 Expands Across Sarawak to Champion Inclusivity

KUCHING – The Silent Run 5.0, organised by the Sarawak Deaf Sports Association (SSDeaf), will return in 2026 on a larger scale, spreading its message of inclusivity and solidarity across four major cities in Sarawak.

Scheduled to take place in Bintulu (10 May 2026), Miri (24 May 2026), Sibu (14 June 2026), and Kuching (28 June 2026), the charity run is expected to attract around 2,500 participants.

The event aims to raise awareness of Deaf culture, encourage the wider use of sign language in public spaces, and generate funds to support the development of deaf athletes at both national and international levels.

Tentative venues include The Spring Mall Bintulu, Marina Parkcity and Miri City Hall parking area, Dataran Tun Tunku Bujang Phase 1 (Sibu Town Square), and the Kuching South City Council (MBKS) lobby.

SSDeaf explained that the Silent Run has become a symbol of the Deaf community’s identity, demonstrating that strength and unity can be expressed without a voice, but through understanding, respect, and togetherness.

Registration will be offered in four categories, with early bird rates ranging from RM10 to RM45 until 31 January 2026. Regular registration, available from 1 February to 5 April 2026, will be priced between RM15 and RM50.

A portion of the net proceeds will be channelled into the SSDeaf fund, supporting training programmes and enabling Sarawak’s deaf athletes to participate in major championships such as the Malaysian Deaf Games (SOPMA), the Asia Pacific Deaf Sports Confederation (APDSC) Games, and the Deaflympics.

Sarawak’s deaf athletes have consistently proven their capabilities on the international stage. They have secured medals in bowling, badminton, athletics, and orienteering at prestigious events including the 2nd Deaf SEA Games in Jakarta, SOPMA XXII in Kuching, and the 25th Summer Deaflympics in Tokyo last year.

These achievements highlight how community support continues to empower athletes to reach greater heights.

The Silent Run 5.0 is expected to further strengthen public engagement with the Deaf community, while reinforcing Sarawak’s commitment to inclusivity and sporting excellence.
